Bediz Yılmaz received her B.A. in Public Administration and Political Science and her Ph.D. in 2006 from the French Institute for Urban Studies with a thesis on forced migration and social exclusion in the case of Tarlabaşı, Istanbul. Between 2006 and 2016, she worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Public Administration, Mersin University, and since her dismissal due to the peace declaration, she has been working in the field of ecology and agriculture. In Mersin, she worked on olive cultivation in rural areas and on agricultural production and composting in urban areas within the Solinova Producer Women’s Cooperative. Between 2021-2023, she was the coordinator of the “100 Sene 100 Nesne Online Encyclopaedia of Republican History” project. Currently, she is practicing urban agriculture in the historical Piyalepaşa Orchard in Istanbul, works as ecological advisor for the ‘Iron Apple Festival Project’ at the Gola Association, as the moderator of the Fair Food Community created by Postane (İstanbul) and is one of the two instructors of the New Urbanite’s Ecological Life Guide training.
