Özlem Savaş is a researcher and lecturer at the Chair of Comparative Cultural and Social Anthropology at European University Viadrina. She earned her Dr. Phil. in cultural studies and previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Design at Bilkent University. She has held research fellowships at Humboldt University, Bard College Berlin, the Brandenburg Center for Media Studies, and the University of Konstanz. Her interdisciplinary research intersects media studies, migration studies, and cultural studies, with a particular focus on affect and emotions, aesthetic and cultural production, and everyday life. She has published on affective digital media practices, collective emotions of migration, social media practices of self and lifestyle, diasporic aesthetics and politics of the everyday, and visual culture in political Islam. She is currently writing her book The Sigh of Displacement: Affective Practices of Mediating Migration and Belonging and co-editing the forthcoming book Audiovisual Healing and Reparation: Recuperative Affect of Mediated Troubles, both under contract with Routledge.
